A city worth believing in
South Bend is a community rich with history, faith, and families who love their children deeply. And yet, for too long, an ecumenical, Christ-centered school that is truly welcoming and accessible to all families has been missing: one that brings together children from every background, prioritizing those who have historically had the fewest options and the most barriers to an excellent education.
The Willows Academy is rooted in South Bend’s west side and open to families across the city. We believe every child, in every household, deserves to flourish. And we believe our homes and communities thrive, when our children and families thrive.
That conviction is not new to this community. For years, pastors, church leaders, and ministry partners had already been praying for a school like this to exist. The longing was real and it was wide.
A calling takes shape
The path to South Bend was not a straight line. It was one of faith, shaped by community, calling, and a growing conviction that this was exactly where the vision was meant to take root. And when they arrived, what they found confirmed it. West-side churches and ministry partners were already praying for a school like this to exist.
The Willows Academy didn’t create a need; it stepped into one that the community had already been naming before God for years.
A community coming together
What has marked this journey from the beginning is that we have not walked it alone. West-side churches, community and ministry partners opened their arms to the vision immediately. Pastors who had been praying for exactly this came alongside us. Again and again, we have heard the same words from parents and leaders across South Bend:
“I wish this school had existed five years ago.”
That response has only deepened our conviction that the time for The Willows Academy is now.
What we’re building
The Willows Academy is a Christ-centered, classical school rooted in faith, academic excellence, and lifelong flourishing, built for the children and families of South Bend’s west side and open to all. We are a Founders School within the Spreading Hope Network, joining a cohort of schools launching in cities across the United States, each one an answer to a community’s prayer.
We are grateful for every person who has walked with us, prayed with us, and believed in this vision. The story of The Willows Academy is still being written, and we’d love for you to be part of it.
