Our Values and Core Commitments
Where Belonging Grows
We seek to cultivate a vibrant community of learners that reflects the richness of God’s Kingdom in South Bend—bringing together families from across our city and forming meaningful relationships among children and families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Christ-Centered

Joyful Discovery
All of creation points to the glory of God. As we study creation through timeless stories, literature, art, music and nature study, we cultivate a breadth of ideas that lead children to delight in their Creator and His world more each day, understanding and growing in their distinct role as joyful stewards of His Kingdom.

Collective
Being God’s image bearers, we belong to one another and are committed to an environment where children are deeply known and loved, while growing in compassion and humility for the mutual thriving of our school community and city beyond.

Renewal
We encourage and challenge students to engage with ideas in a way that brings the Gospel’s truth to bear on all aspects of life, to engage with culture—art, politics, ethics, and more—as a means of co-laboring with Christ to renew and restore all things through the lens of the Gospel.

Intentional Partnerships
In partnership with parents, we cultivate habits and virtues in children that extend beyond the classroom. Through relationships and shared experiences across our city, students engage in meaningful learning and service that prepares them to live thoughtfully and serve their communities well.

Habit Formation
We intentionally practice the habits that shape character and relationships. Through daily disciplines, children are guided toward maturity and grounded in wisdom and grace—growing in virtue and a love for what is good, true, and beautiful, with a strong foundation for lifelong intellectual, spiritual, and physical growth.
How Learning Takes Shape
Education for the Soul
At The Willows Academy, our mission is lived out through thoughtful, time-tested practices that honor children as whole persons, made in the image of God. Learning is shaped by attention, relationship, and meaningful engagement with ideas—inviting children to grow in understanding, character, and joy.

Learning through Stories and Ideas
Children encounter rich stories and meaningful ideas that bring subjects to life and invite thoughtful conversation, narration, and reflection.

Learning with Hands and Heart
Hands-on work, nature study, and careful observation help children connect learning to the real world, building attention and understanding through experience.

Learning with Thoughtful Rhythmns
Consistent routines, shared practices, and clear expectations create a calm, supportive environment where children can focus, grow, and flourish.
“Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”
G.K. Chesterton
